Writer's picture: HRMSguideHRMSguide

Core HR systems serve as the backbone of employee data management, evolving from traditional payroll solutions to encompass a wide array of HR functionalities. As organizations increasingly rely on these systems, it's crucial to understand their strengths, limitations, and the evolving landscape of available solutions.

Core HR Landscape:

With over 30 core HR solutions in use in Estonia alone, organizations have a plethora of options to choose from. From established names like SAP and Workday to emerging players like HiBob and Zoho People, and local players like Wemply & SinuLab each solution offers unique features and capabilities.

Survey Insights:

Our recent survey delved into the strengths and challenges faced by HR managers using core HR systems. While customer support received positive feedback, overall satisfaction levels remained modest, indicating room for improvement. Comments highlighted issues such as outdated interfaces, limited functionalities, and technical errors.

Key Findings:

1. Limited Modernization: Many core HR systems are perceived as outdated, lacking modern features and user-friendly interfaces.

2. Integration Challenges: Some respondents noted difficulties with integrating core HR systems with other organizational tools, leading to inefficiencies and duplicate entries.

3. Functional Gaps: Despite offering a holistic approach, certain core HR solutions fall short in covering all aspects of the employee lifecycle, leaving gaps in functionality.

4. User Customization: On the positive side, users appreciated the flexibility of certain systems, allowing them to tailor the software to their specific needs and preferences.

Recommendations:

1. Prioritize Modernization: Good vendors focus on updating their core HR systems to meet the evolving needs of HR managers, incorporating modern features and intuitive interfaces. Make sure yours does.

2. Enhanced Integration Capabilities: Seamless integration of your HRIS with other organizational tools is essential for maximizing efficiency and reducing manual tasks. If doesn’t have a flexible API then don’t buy it.

3. Address Functional Gaps: Vendors strive to bridge functional gaps within their core HR systems, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the employee lifecycle. But do check if it’s true.

4. Empower User Customization: Providing users with robust customization options enables them to optimize their work according to their unique requirements, enhancing satisfaction, whether they are a base level employee or a manager.

Additional comments:

Here are some of the comments from the survey. Solution names have been removed to avoid bias, original spelling has been retained:

·         Currently we are replacing local HRM system to international system SYSTEMNAME.

·         As a government institution we use the system provided, developed and supported by the government.

·         It is more a bookkeeping tool but for our needs it has a very good cost/quality

·         Too many duplicate entries causes errors

·         Old and not very modern

·         Still in working progress so the product dont have much functions yet.

·         SYSTEMNAME does not cover all the aspects of the employee lifecycle

·         SYSTEMNAME has holistic approach meaning it covers different processes, but system has not developed to work efficiently nor flexibility of the system does not meet expectations

·         The tool has a lot of mistakes and errors in it, which actually makes using the system not viable in the long term.

·         We´re using several SYSTEMNAME modules as CRM, Projects, Survey, Desk (for ticketing) and People, so it´s  more widely used in our company. What comes to SYSTEMNAME, I really like that I can build it the way I like and need :)

Conclusion:

As organizations continue to rely on core HR systems for employee data management, it's imperative to address the evolving needs and challenges faced by HR managers. By prioritizing modernization, enhancing integration capabilities, and empowering user customization, core HR solutions can help unlock your full potential and drive organizational success.
